Melanie Troutman-Williams
Melanie paints in oil, acrylic, and mixed media bringing a lighthearted portrait view to the galleries offerings.
Born in North Carolina with a desire to draw and paint as soon as possible and inspired by her grandfather, artist Frans vanBergen she took every art class she could. She attended the Sawtooth School of Visual Arts and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. After graduating from East Carolina University with a BFA degree in painting, she returned to the Triad to paint and work. Unfortunately life took a turn when she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and began suffering from chronic pain. Her love of painting became her therapy.
After knowing the ugliness of pain she uses color, expression and composition to guide you toward humor, calmness and happiness. These are things she strives for on a daily basis because art is survival. She paints in acrylic or oil on canvas or wood panel. Creatures great and small including humans are the preferred subjects.
Melanie is associated with a number of art organizations in Winston-Salem such as the Downtown Arts District Association where she is a member of the DADA Artists Collective, Art for Arts Sake and Associated Artists of Winston-Salem. She is also an Art-o-mat Artist in Cellophane with her "Doggone" series. She has maintained a studio at Sixteen Over Six in the heart of the Downtown Arts District for six years. Feel free to contact her for commission work or share cute pictures of your pets.
